VetPlus was founded in 1995 by David Haythornthwaite, the company’s current owner. David, who lived in the USA for thirteen years, had identified America’s growing interest in veterinary nutraceuticals:
"Substances produced in a purified or extracted form that is administered orally to provide or stimulate production of raw materials required for normal bodily functions".
Pioneer
Coming from an agricultural background and recognising that most good ideas eventually cross the Atlantic to Europe he returned to the UK determined to develop his own range of veterinary products. Starting from a bedroom in Lytham, David took the original concept and pioneered the development and acceptance of nutraceuticals within the UK veterinary profession. There are many reasons for the company\'s success but in principal they are built around two key strategies:
• Make the best possible products• Sell them only through veterinarians

Leader
Today VetPlus is the clear leader in its field and well on the way to fulfilling David\'s original aim of being a global leader in veterinary nutraceuticals.
One of the keys to the growth and profitability of any company is having a pipeline of new and innovative products. This requires not only a considerable amount of investment, but more importantly, the ability to identify opportunities. From the outset in this respect VetPlus have led the field. We were the first company to develop and patent a joint supplement for dogs, SYNOQUIN®, which is today the number one joint supplement recommended by UK veterinarians. Over the last ten years several more products have been introduced, five of which are today market leaders within their sectors. How did we achieve this? In the most part through hard work and determination, but also a single minded vision to be the very best at what we do.
Research and Development
Today the group employ full Research and Development and Technical Teams and is continuing to invest heavily in new product development to ensure we maintain our leadership position.
With a growing demand for its products both domestically and abroad, VetPlus is committed to continue its history of innovation.
In the early days all manufacturing was out-sourced but David Haythornthwaite, the company founder, always had a long term plan to manufacture the products in-house. I am amazed when I read about companies being advised to out-source their manufacturing requirements. We have done the opposite and I have no doubt it pays off. Manufacturing our own products gives us many advantages but the key ones are flexibility and quality control:
