Post Number TH038

Rate of Pay £7.57 per hour

Tullie House is looking to recruit a number of casual Museum Assistants to help with front of house duties and exhibition installations.

We are principally looking for people who can deliver exceptional customer care in the museum’s public galleries but we are also looking for people with some specific practical skills.

The role requires candidates who have excellent communication skills, who can work alone but equally enjoy being part of a team and who enjoy interacting with visitors.

The role may involve conducting handling sessions with historic artefacts, answering visitor queries and ensuring the safety of the collections as well as being involved in the installation and de-installation of our busy exhibitions programme.

In addition to working in the galleries with visitors we are looking for candidates who can help behind the scenes providing us with all or some of the following skills:

• A good standard of DIY skills (be able to hang pictures, paint, lift, use power drills etc)

• An understanding of IT, particularly installing audio visual equipment in exhibitions,
connecting computers, trouble shooting software issues, mounting screens, cabling etc

• Have experience of packing and safe handling of fragile objects

• Be able to drive a small transit van and be prepared to drive to collect material from around
the region.

Ideally, you should also have at least one year of experience in a customer service environment, be able to work without close supervision and be able to use your own initiative.

We are open 7 days a week, 52 weeks of the year therefore you will be required to have a flexible approach to work to meet business demands.

A full induction and training programme will be provided for all aspects of the role.

You will be required to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service Application Form.
